FEATURE EPISODE: DOYENNE GROUP
PAVING THE WAY TO A DIVERSE AND EQUAL ENTREPRENEURIAL COMMUNITY.
On this madisonNoteworthy FEATURE EPISODE, we highlight the Doyenne Group. Now, with $1.2 million in funding to help women- and minority-owned businesses, the Doyenne Group is making a huge impact on the Wisconsin entrepreneurial community.
We’re going to share with you how it all started.
Heather Wentler and Amy Gannon met in 2012 and shared a concern for the lack of support for women entrepreneurs. Soon after they launched the Doyenne Group; a non-profit organization that provides an empowering environment and opportunities for women entrepreneurs to thrive by making available resources, programs, networks, investors and funding.
Their mission is to encourage a truly diverse and gender-equal entrepreneurial ecosystem in Madison that invests in the power and potential of women.
Amy and Heather aim to change the local ecosystem, so that women and minorities can thrive and the local economies reap all those benefits. To do this they’ve developed four key strategies that the company focuses on:
- Developing female entrepreneurs,
- Building and mobilizing networks,
- Collaboration, and
- Raising funds to invest in women entrepreneurs.
They have a unique fund called the Evergreen Fund, that now total around $1.2 million. This money will dispersed over the next 2 years to community grants, loans, equity investments, and into their programming for scholarships. And what’s really unique about this fund, is that all the returns on those dollars go back into the fund.
But the Doyenne Group isn’t all about the money, they offer so much more. Heather and Amy pride themselves on the emotional support, mentoring and resources that they are able to offer women. They’ve created a safe and honest place where women can go to get REAL advice and coaching to help them grow their business. They understand that you may not have it right all the time, and that you might not have it all together, and that is OK.
The most important thing is that realize there is help, there is resources and that you can do it. And that you have to take action and walk through the door.
